Who are we?

Extraordinary Law was founded by Brandi K. Suter following 15 years of professional experience working with children with special needs, disabilities and behavioral challenges. It is the goal of Extraordinary Law to support students with disabilities and their families who need access to appropriate educational programs and services to support the student's needs. We educate, empower and advocate closely with parents and guardians to achieve their desired results.

Brandi K. Suter, Esq.

Brandi has a passion for working with children and families to learn how to best support all areas of needs. After obtaining her Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh and her Law Degree from Duquesne University, she has focused her legal career on representing families of extraordinary students.

Brandi collaborates with families to determine what services their student needs. This includes examining student records, advocating for educational supports and accommodations, and attending and advocating alongside parents at IEP, GIEP and 504 meetings. Brandi's experience and specialized knowledge in special education law have resulted in the creation of many successful educational plans.

However, if the school district's program is unrepairable or the student is entitled to more supports, then Brandi will pursue all legal remedies available, including litigation. She will ensure your school district complies with their legal obligations to your extraordinary student.

Brandi has secured hundreds of favorable results for parents and students throughout her career, throughout Western Pennsylvania. Parents will be fully guided through each stage of the legal process to ensure that children are receiving the services and support they deserve.

Hattie Dougherty is an associate attorney at Extraordinary Law. After earning her Master's in Elementary Education she saw first hand the struggles faced by families and students in the public education system. While teaching in North Carolina, she developed her passion for working with children, but quickly realized the ability to affect greater change was as an advocate.

She decided to make a change in careers and returned to Law School, with a plan to focus her practice in the public education system. She returned to her hometown of Pittsburgh to attend the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. During law school she worked as a Law Clerk with Extraordinary Law, increasing her understanding of the PA education system.

She is excited to use her experience and education to represent extraordinary students!
